Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins, 338 pages

What a cute book! Lola is very quirky and it was overwhelming at first but over time you realize the point Stephanie is trying to make is that she wants the readers to see more than Lola’s crazy outfits and just see her for Lola. That also goes along with the book when Lola is trying to find herself again while also figuring out who she wants more. Max or Cricket?

It was a really quick, easy, and very annoying to read at some points, just due to Lola not being honest with herself. It really ties into her character because she wears costumes every single day. Yes, everyday she’s wearing a different costume and it’s outrageous at first until you realize she just likes fashion so she does her own thing. Which reminds me to be confident in what I wear because we all get down in the dumps sometimes and get to caught up in what other people think. Stephanie Perkins just explains this on a wayyy bigger scale. Let’s talk about Max and Cricket now, Lola’s love interests. Max in the beginning was perfectly okay but when Cricket came back and Max became jealous(for the right reasons) it was pretty obvious that Lola didn’t love Max as much as she thought she did. So for basically the rest of the book I read about Lola lying to herself, in the best way possible of course so it wasn’t to annoying. !Spoiler Ahead! Max in the end showed his true colors and Cricket finally got Lola but I still don’t think Lola deserves Cricket because she’s pretty selfish !End of Spoiler!

If your looking for a quick, cute read then I recommend this book but I know their are better ones out their :) From other reviews, Anna and the French Kiss seems to be the best, so I’ll be sure to put that on my read next list.

Thanks for reading!

This is how I imagine Lola waving to Cricket from her window. Yes, I wasn’t kidding she literally wears costumes.
